The material is keramin, a heavy, durable plaster polymer compound, with a light ochre finish applied by hand. There may, therefore, be a slight variation in colour from piece to piece. Bases are made of solid dark grey or black marble.

Made in Greece in the workshop of the Semitekolo family with whom It's All Greek is proud to have been working since 1999, and who produce It's All Greek's bedrock bronze collection.

This famous statue of Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, was found on April 8, 1820, by a local farmer near the ruins of an ancient theatre on the island of Milos. She is slightly larger than life-size, at 2.03 metres, and when discovered, she was in several pieces. Following diplomatic disputes, she was eventually purchased by France and presented to King Louis XVIII, who in 1821 donated it to the Louvre, where she is on display.

She was initially misattributed to the famous 4thC BCE sculptor Praxiteles, and is more likely, according to an inscription on her base (later lost), the work of Alexandros of Antioch. The position of her missing arms, and the matter of what they held, if anything, remain a mystery. She is also known as the Venus de Milo.

Key features of this graceful iconic piece include the classical serenity in her face, the Hellenistic movement in the body, the characteristic contrapposto of her torso and her heavy, elegant drapery.
