Minoan vessel with swallows

This lovely piece is a reproduction of a ritual vessel found in Thera/Santorini, depicting flying swallows, lilies and crocus.

It is a strainer jar - a characteristic Theran pottery type, also found in Minoan Crete. This form of vessel, with incorporated strainer, was probably used in the manufacture of aromatic oils, or as an incense burner.
