An intaglio or seal design based on the famous 'Prince of Lilies' fresco.
Minoan Prince of Lilies pendant
2.7cm x 1cm
The Prince with Lilies is also known as the Priest King. The slender young figure is wearing a Minoan loincloth and a splendid crown of lilies and peacock feathers. With his left hand he was probably holding a sacred animal, possibly a sphinx or a griffin. The original fresco, found in the palace at Knossos in Crete, is now in the Heraklion Museum and dates to ca 1500 BC.
It has been a privilege to work with the Vaphiadis family since 2007. They are one of the best manufacturers of sterling silver jewellery in Greece.
The collection is inspired by ancient Greek silver and gold coins, the art and jewellery of the Minoan civilisation, familiar symbolic motifs and images, and the animals that played a significant part in ancient Greek culture.
