This spirited and perky little bird is inspired by geometric votive birds from sanctuaries, some of which were hung as pendants, maybe from trees, which would explain the little loop on the back. These originals date to ca 750-700BC.
I took a photo of the original with his little friends when in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens in April 2022 - they are in the lovely Bronze Room on the left before you go up to the Thera frescoes on the first floor.
Its face is rather 'equine'! It looks similar to geometric horses from this period.
