This gorgeous piece is both decorative and functional. The tondo is decorated by swimming dolphins, and there are fine decorative motifs around the underside of the rim and on the two handles. It stands on three little legs in the form of serpent heads.

about the bronzes in this collection
The bronze pieces are cast in Greece using the traditional lost wax method. As nothing is mass-produced, there will inevitably be slight variations in texture, patina, and colour. No two pieces are ever the same. If mounted on a marble base, it will be a black or very dark grey base. There may be a variation of some millimetres in the dimensions of the base from time to time.

Throughout antiquity, the dolphin was closely associated with Aphrodite (goddess of love and beauty), Apollo (god of culture and healing), Poseidon (god of the sea) and Dionysos (god of wine and drama).
They were often depicted in the art of the seafaring Minoans, as gentle and intelligent mammals connecting the human world with the elemental world of nature.
