Something a little different as bookends!
This spirited and perky birds are inspired by geometric votive birds from sanctuaries, some of which were hung as pendants, maybe from trees, which would explain the little loop on the back. These originals date to ca 750-700BC.
I took a photo of the original with his little friends when in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens in April 2022 - they are in the lovely Bronze Room on the left before you go up to the Thera frescoes on the first floor.
Their faces are rather 'equine'! They looks similar to geometric horses from this period. One bird has a crest, the other not.
The marble base is of black polished marble with veins of white.

about the bronze collection
The bronze pieces are cast in Greece using the traditional lost wax method. As nothing is mass-produced, there will inevitably be slight variations in texture, patina, and colour. No two pieces are ever the same. If mounted on a marble base, it will be a black or very dark grey base. There may be a variation of some millimetres in the dimensions of the base from time to time.
