Lucernae were terracotta lamps that were filled with olive oil. This lucerna shows an image of winged Victory holding an olive wreath in her right hand. It has an earthenware glaze which is the same as that used in ancient Greece and Rome, so it can be used as a functioning lamp.
The lamp should be placed on a heatproof surface before lighting, and half filled with olive oil. The wick is placed in the larger of the two holes. (Oil or wick not supplied).
