A lovely miniature of this iconic lady. On her own integrated bronze base.
bronze Karyatid (mini)
- Height: 9cm
The 6 Karyatids were the dominant feature of the porch on the south side of the Erechtheion on the Akropolis in Athens and supported the entablature and the roof of the building, facing towards the north side of the Parthenon. Named after Erechtheios, legendary king of Athens, this complex and intricate building, on several levels, was constructed in the last quarter of the 5th century BC and was dedicated to Athena and her uncle Poseidon.
These stunning, draped female figures have elaborately stylised hair, symmetrically arranged, surmounting the cascade of U-shaped catenary folds described by the cloak. Karyatids were associated with the goddess Artemis.
The bronze pieces are cast in Greece using the traditional lost wax method. As nothing is mass-produced, there will inevitably be slight variations in texture, patina, and colour. No two pieces are ever the same. If mounted on a marble base, it will be a black or very dark grey base. There may be a variation of some millimetres in the dimensions of the base from time to time.
It's All Greek is proud to have been working with the Semitekolo family foundry since 1999. It has been a privilege to handle these gorgeous pieces and to sell them to customers all over the world.
