Riders on horseback encircle this black-figure kantharos. They are most likely hunting, a common pastime for the aristocratic males of ancient Greek society. The details of the figures and horses are made by incision, while the handles, inside and foot of the vessel have been painted with black glaze. Drinking cups such as this woudld have been used at symposia (drinking parties) or banquets, their subject-matter reflective of upper class society.
