| Our Cycladic collection consists of items in bronze, marble and keramin. Original figurines, in marble or limestone, date to the third millennium BC and are the first representation of the female form in western art. The term 'Cycladic' derives from the group of islands in the Aegean Sea, called the 'Cyclades' (including Delos, Naxos and Paros) around which a circle (Greek 'kyklos') could be drawn. These heads and figurines are particularly striking for their abstract, almost contemporary, simplicity. |
